SOLAR MATERIALS is a cleantech startup based in Magdeburg that specializes in recycling solar panels. To achieve this, we have developed an innovative recycling technology that, for the first time, enables the cost-effective recovery of all raw materials contained in solar panels. Our thermo-mechanical process is energy-efficient and operates without the use of chemicals. Our goal is to transform the solar industry into a circular economy and make solar energy truly sustainable.

Your mission

As a Project & Site Development Manager (m/f/d), you will plan and oversee the expansion of our existing site in Magdeburg as well as the development of new locations across Europe and globally. We are currently preparing the establishment of new sites in Southern Germany and Italy.
You will serve as our primary point of contact for project partners and service providers throughout the entire value chain, working at the exciting intersection of Business Development, Engineering, Legal, and Commercial Operations. A key focus of your role will be supporting and coordinating permitting and approval processes in close collaboration with our internal experts and external consultants. Occasional project-related travel is part of the position.

Your main responsibilities as a Project & Site Development Manager (m/f/d) include:

  • Independently managing smaller projects and sub-projects, while providing operational support in the planning and execution of larger site development projects
  • Preparing and coordinating applications for building permits and environmental approvals
  • Coordinating with local partners, suppliers, and service providers
  • Developing and monitoring project schedules and timelines
  • Acting as an interface between internal departments, including Permitting, Engineering, Legal, Finance, and Commercial
  • Creating and maintaining project plans, including dependencies, milestones, and risk assessments

Your profile

  • A completed degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or a comparable field
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in project management or project development, ideally in an industrial environment, plant engineering, the energy sector, or the recycling industry
  • A self-driven and structured working style; you are able to keep track of multiple parallel topics and enjoy driving projects forward together with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements across different European countries, particularly in Germany
  • Experience collaborating with public authorities, environmental and planning consultancies, as well as international partners
  • Industry experience in the recycling or waste management sector, the cleantech industry, or the circular economy, and/or experience with permitting procedures under the German Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG)
  • High level of initiative, strategic thinking, and an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Professional fluency in English; additional foreign language skills are an advantage
